Crusaders’ Record Season Concludes

Our Varsity Boys Basketball team capped off their record-setting season with the second place trophy in last week’s state tournament.  Their 22-game winning streak (last loss was on November 29th in Pensacola, FL) was snapped on Saturday after coming up short against Oak Level Baptist in the championship game.

The Crusaders finished with 12 wins and 0 losses in conference and a school record 28 wins and 5 losses on the season.

Season awards were given to Seniors Andrew Cruse (First Team All-State) and Jonathan Williams (Second Team All-State).


Brief History

The Shining Light basketball program has been in existence for just 10 years after joining the North Carolina Christian School Association in 2003.  Here’s a brief look at the past 10 years:

  • Won 6 out of the last 7 conference titles
  • Four 20+ win seasons
  • 1 or more players on First Team All-State every year for the last 8 years
  • 4 players on Second Team All-State
  • 3 State Titles

Last 5 years:

  • 2009 – Record: 24-7 Season Outcome: Won State Championship
  • 2010 – Record: 25-5 Season Outcome: Won State Championship
  • 2011 – Record: 25-5 Season Outcome: Won State Championship
  • 2012 – Record: 16-11 Season Outcome: Lost in first round of State Tournament
  • 2013 – Record: 28-5 Season Outcome: Lost in State Championship game
